Every estimator has sat in front of Xactimate thinking, what is the line item I am looking for. The built-in search wants the right keyword, and if you do not have it, you scroll categories and guess. Experienced writers get past this with memory. Newer writers burn real time on it, job after job.
That is a lookup problem, not a knowledge problem. The technician standing in the room knows exactly what work needs to happen. The gap is translating that work into the code Xactimate expects, and keyword search is a bad translator, one of the estimating chores AI already does better.

Ranked results instead of exact matches
The video demos a free AI-powered search engine built specifically for Xactimate line item codes. Instead of exact keyword matching, it runs a reranking model: type what you are looking for and it returns the most commonly related items, each scored by how confident the model is that it matches your intent.
Type drywall and you get the usual items plus the alternates underneath, the did-you-mean 5/8 variations. There is also a detailed view where you describe what you are actually experiencing at the loss, hit search, and get the line items most commonly used for that situation.

Build the list before you touch the desk
As you search, you add items to a running list. At the end you export it and bring it over to your estimate with the codes already attached. The claim in the video is that this gets an estimate roughly 60 percent written before you ever open Xactimate, leaving the estimator to tweak quantities and nuance from a real starting point.
That is the same division of labor Axiom is built on. The software handles the lookup and the structure, and the estimator keeps the judgment: which items actually apply, what the quantities should be, and what the file still needs before it goes out.
